Weather Information for Greece by Charter Base

Greece is a very safe Mediterranean destination for boating and sailing holidays with an abundance of natural harbours and anchorages. The coastline is the largest of any Mediterranean country (ca. 7000 miles) that results in a number of natural 'zones' or groupings of Islands usually characterised by terrain, air and sea temperature or geographical commonalities.

We've produced the following comparison table by starting harbour.

Winds in the Aegean Sea (from April to October)

During the summer months and especially between mid July and mid August, strong winds are common in the Aegean Sea. The wind is referred to as the "Meltemi" and blows from the North/Northeast and can blow continuously for several days. If the skipper decides to remain in port during the Meltemi, day-trips around the Island by motor scooter, cycle or on foot are the best way to deal with it.
