Finding your perfect sailing holiday starts right here… and it couldn’t be easier

The first step in understanding what type of sailing holiday is right for you is knowing what sailing options are out there, the terminology that goes with it and what you get (or should get) from each.

Charter terminology

The first thing you need to know about sailing holidays is that you rent houses, cars and chalets but always charter yachts.

So, what type of sailing holidays are out there?

Cabin Charter

You don't need experience or a license to join cabin charter sailing holidays. Cabin charter enables you to charter less than a full yacht ie. a cabin or two!

Accomodation is usually in single or double cabins and the operator is responsible for the yacht, well-trained crew and providing the trip they are advertising. A key determinant of the type of holiday you're buying is that with cabin charter there should not be any outlay at the beginning of the trip for security deposit. Food may or may not be included (this will be specified at the time you enquire and book).

Yacht with Skipper

You don’t need to be an experienced sailor to enjoy a skippered sailing holiday. Leave your troubles at the harbour’s edge and just drift away across the sparkling Mediterranean seas in one of our beautiful 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 cabin yachts and catamarans. Whether you’re travelling solo, with a partner or in a group, a skippered charter sailing holiday with up to ten of your friends in the Greek Islands is the perfect way to re-charge your batteries. Kick off your shoes, soak up the sun, and leave the rest of the world behind – just take a look at what’s in store for you for more information about a Yacht and Skipper.

Luxury Private Yacht with Crew

Spend your days stretched out on the deck sipping a cool drink while you sail around the Greek islands. Gaze up at the whitewashed villages perched on cliff edges. Spot the glistening sands of another hidden cove under a cloudless sky. In the meantime, your every need is taken care of by the professional, uniformed captain and crew – at the helm, in the galley and with their own separate crew quarters.

Private motor boats and private sailing yachts with onboard professional crew are collectively referred to as Crewed charters. The vast majority of these yachts are seventeen metres or more in length and this type of sailing holiday is designed with service in mind.

Cultural Sailing Holidays

Experience the history, architecture and mythology of the Greek Islands...and the food of course! Get Away Sailing organises Greek Islands cultural sailing tours that let you enjoy the climate by day and give you time to explore historical sites, places of cultural significance and attend Greek cuisine, language or art courses before and after.

Learn to sail and boat handling course

Learn to sail in the loveliest classroom in the Western World! Get Away Sailing began as a sailing school offering learn to sail holidays to people looking for the combination of theory with practical boat handling tuition to one day captain your own yacht, become competent onboard to help your sailing friends or partner handle a cruising yacht or just experiencing a different group or family adventure holiday.

All under the sunshine and blue skies of the Saronic Islands you'll be learning while doing - navigating, map-reading, route-planning, anchoring, helming, stern-to mooring, tying knots and casting lines ashore.

Part of recreational skippering is also learning that your guests or crew need to relax, cool off and eat which is why we take a break each day for a swim, relax and enjoy that well-earned lunch before we up-anchor and set-sail in the afternoon. Yes, we're looking for a learn to sail holiday.

Small Anchorages and Harbours Flotilla

Flotilla sailing holidays will have you skippering yourself but with the security of local experience and relationships alongside you. The Get Away Sailing flotillas only take a maximum of four yachts and you will need some sailing experience such as a previous Ionian flotilla as the winds in the Saronic Islands are more reliable. One person will need a sailing qualification and a second person that's fit and able to sign up to being second-in-command to help you out. Yes, a flotilla is exactly what we're looking for!

Bareboat Yacht Charter

Renting or hiring a yacht is referred to as yacht charter. Bareboats provide the bare yacht, fully equipped kitchens (galleys) and safety gear but not a skipper. One of your group will need to captain the yacht and hold a sailing qualification to be presented at the start of the charter period. As with all sailing holidays, food and onboard provisions need to be purchased by you. See our yacht charter page for more information on Greece bareboat hire.

Whether you prefer to skipper yourself on a flotilla and sail away into the blue, learn to sail with a group of friends, or just book a yacht with skipper for you and your friends while someone else takes the helm, you know you’re in good hands with Get Away Sailing.
